A new, personality assessment-based version of the popular Military Skills Translator may be the key to improving a company’s veteran hiring and recruitment efforts.

The tool, known as Military Skills Translator + Personality Assessment gives veterans the ability to better understand what they are qualified to do and what career fields may best match their interests and skill sets. For the employer, this means better matching to existing jobs and another level of vetting before the veteran applies for open positions resulting in candidates who are more likely to be a good match. The technology is also optimized for desktop and mobile platforms to work with an employer’s existing recruitment outreach.

While salary, benefits, and qualifications will always be a part of the job search and evaluation process, veterans are also looking to find the right “fit” for their post-service career. That means the company culture and sense of connection are important to them and if satisfied, could lead to better retention rates and increased happiness in their jobs.

Military Skills Translator + Personality Assessment was developed using existing military skills information and blending that with technology developed by Traitify to go beyond skills translation and incorporate personality testing.

The new assessment format is image-based, mobile-friendly and takes ninety seconds to complete. The tool gives job seekers tailored recommendations on which career fields are best suited to their personalities.

The Personality Assessment tool has a ninety-five percent completion rate. After the military member or veteran completes the test, the results are paired with Military Skills Translator’s existing robust data base of primary, secondary and tertiary skills sets related to military occupational codes. Veterans then see relevant career results and available jobs within those industries.

“I can’t believe that such a quick and easy assessment can deliver such accurate results.  The information revealed through the assessment is valuable through every step of the job search, from exploring career paths to finding open positions, to acing the interview,” said Lindsay L. Teplesky, a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard.

Teplesky added, “I highly recommend the Military Skills Translator + Personality Assessment for all transitioning service members and military veterans looking to jumpstart their civilian careers.”

The test measures fifty-six different personality traits on scales and measures each one multiple times to ensure accuracy. A veteran’s individual traits are then mapped to optimal traits for specific career fields. The veteran is then shown a prioritized view of career matches based on best fit and is even exposed to career fields they may not have even known they were suited to.

“Service members are asked all the time what they want to do when they get out of the military and the most common answer is ‘I don’t know.’ Adding personality assessment to our existing Military Skills Translator helps them answer that question and can shatter preconceived notions of who they thought they were,” said Terry Howell, Senior Director for Alliances and Operations for Military.com.

Military Skills Translator + Personality Assessment is just one element in a suite of tools that employers can use to find, and keep veteran employees.

A good way to show interest in hiring veterans is the Veteran Hiring Pledge which demonstrates a company’s commitment to a veteran-friendly work place. Another strategy that is similar to a veteran preference hiring program is a custom Veteran Talent Portal. This is a company-branded tool intended to engage veteran job seekers with an organization’s company values, content, photos, and videos and success stories

Finally, there is the Audit, Consulting, & Training Solutions program. Companies looking to introduce or improve upon their veteran hiring and retention programs are well-served by this program that helps businesses achieve their hiring goals, overcome challenges, and create a veteran-friendly culture within their organization.
